If you were affected by the Eaton Fire, you may be eligible to receive compensation directly from Southern California Edison through its Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program.
Gordon Byszewski LLP helps Eaton Fire homeowners and renters navigate the process—from determining eligibility and gathering supporting documents through preparing the claim, reviewing SCE’s offer, and completing the settlement process.
We’re Part of This Community, Too.
For us, the Eaton Fire is personal.
GBLLP partner Elaine Byszewski lived in Altadena with her husband and children until their home burned in the Eaton Fire.
We started helping people navigate SCE’s direct compensation program because many of our friends, neighbors, and other members of the community want compensation for what they experienced—but do not necessarily want to pursue litigation.

No. You can submit a claim to SCE yourself.
But the process requires claimants to establish eligibility, gather and submit supporting documentation, evaluate the different categories of available compensation, respond to SCE when additional information is requested, and evaluate the Settlement Agreement and Release they ultimately receive.
If you like to have attorneys handle that process for you, with no fees or costs, we can help.

SCE’s published examples indicate that an eligible homeowner whose home suffered no burn damage could potentially receive approximately $40,000 to $120,000 (e.g., for 1-4 residents), depending on the circumstances and number of people living in the home.
For renters, SCE’s published examples indicate potential payments of approximately $20,000 to $80,000 (e.g., for 1-4 residents).
Claimants with homes that were destroyed or suffered structural burn damage may be entitled to substantially more money.
These are examples, not guarantees. Actual compensation depends on eligibility, individual circumstances, documentation, and SCE’s application of its program guidelines.
-
For eligible claims submitted through the program with attorney representation, SCE provides an additional payment for attorneys’ fees equal to 20% of the claimant’s net compensation (excludes the direct claim premium).
That attorneys’ fee is paid on top of the claimant’s compensation rather than deducted from it.
For example, if SCE determines that an eligible claimant should receive $75,000 in compensation, the program provides for a separate attorneys’ fee payment rather than requiring that fee to come out of the claimant’s $75,000 payment.

Litigation may be appropriate for some Eaton Fire victims. SCE’s direct compensation program is an alternative for people who prefer to resolve their claims without litigation.
Some people whose homes burned or who suffered substantial losses may conclude that litigation better serves their interests. Others—particularly homeowners and renters who have returned to standing homes—may prefer the relative simplicity of pursuing direct compensation through SCE’s program.
Our focus here is helping people who have decided that the direct compensation program is the better path for them.
You Don’t Have to Do It All.
If you have decided not to sue SCE, don't overlook the possibility of receiving direct compensation instead.
We can evaluate your situation, explain the process, and, if you decide to work with us, handle the claim from beginning to end.
